About the Role

Charrette Management Group (CMG), a leading Owner's Representative and Construction Management firm, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the construction and buildout of luxury retail environments on behalf of key clients.

Serving as the primary advocate for the owner’s interests across design, permitting, and construction, you will manage architects, general contractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires an adaptable professional who can seamlessly transition between high-level stakeholder conversations and job-site details with an eye for premium craftsmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Project Strategy & Execution

  • Serve as the primary point of contact and owner advocate through all project phases (pre-construction, design development, permitting, construction, and closeout).

  • Develop and manage master budgets, schedules, scopes of work, and risk mitigation strategies across multiple concurrent projects.

  • Support site selection and due diligence, including lease reviews and landlord coordination.

Design & Construction Management

  • Review architectural, engineering, and MEP drawings for design intent, code compliance, and brand alignment.

  • Conduct regular site visits and quality control walkthroughs, holding contractors accountable to luxury-grade finish standards (millwork, stone, custom fixtures, glass, and lighting).

  • Ensure full compliance with local building codes, ADA requirements, and landlord criteria manuals.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead bidding, contractor selection, and contract negotiations (GMP, lump sum, CM-at-risk).

  • Direct multidisciplinary teams, including architects, contractors, landlords, local jurisdictions, lighting designers, and custom fixture fabricators.

  • Manage procurement and FF&E timelines in alignment with store opening schedules.

Financial & Administrative Controls

  • Track and resolve RFIs, submittals, change orders, punch lists, and pay applications.

  • Facilitate weekly Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings and present status reports and financial forecasts to leadership.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 5–8+ years in construction project management, owner’s representation, or general contracting, with significant experience in luxury retail, hospitality, or high-end commercial buildouts.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or a related design field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of construction contracts (AIA or similar), budgeting, and management tools (Procore, MS Project, Smartsheet).

  • Industry Expertise: Deep understanding of retail construction sequencing, landlord/tenant coordination, and multi-site rollout programs.

  • Core Skills: Exceptional negotiation, communication, and executive presentation skills. High detail orientation regarding materials, finishes, and craftsmanship.

  • Flexibility: Ability to travel to project sites as needed during key project milestones, with willingness to work non-standard hours around store openings.

What Success Looks Like

  • Execution: Projects delivered on schedule, within budget, and to brand-standard luxury finish quality.

  • Relationships: Trust-based, collaborative relationships built across clients, contractors, vendors, and landlords.

  • Communication: Proactive, transparent reporting that keeps project owners informed and confident.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Full-time role offering comprehensive healthcare benefits and a retirement plan.

  • Compensation is competitive and determined based on relevant experience, technical expertise, and candidate qualifications.
